The additional meta-data imports are performed when new questions or answer alternatives need to be added to a project. The following rules are applied during an import of new answer alternatives:

  • Rule F: If a question has (a) new answer alternative(s) those will be added to the existing Answer Block as long as no conflict appears with other possible new answer alternatives in the same import (same answer value but different answer text). If the affected answer block is used by several questions the new answer alternative will be inactivated in those questions that do not have the new answer alternative in the present meta-data import. (see example 7 and 8)
  • Rule G: If existing answer alternative texts are being updated during an import (the overwrite function) no new Answer Block will be created as long as all questions using the same block have the same answer texts in the imported file. If a new Answer Block has to be created the question with the highest sort order will get a new Answer Block. (see example 9 and 10)
  • Rule H: The sort order of the new alternative(s) will not affect the detection of the unique Answer Blocks. The detection is based on the answer value and the answer text (see example 9)
  • Rule I: The detection of the same answer value and answer text is not case sensitive

Example 7: The 2 questions below share an Answer Block from the first meta-data import. In an additional import the red answer alternatives are new. After the import the 2 questions will still share an Answer Block due to rule F.

  3. Opel
  4. BMW
  5. Skoda

Q2

  1. Saab
  2. Volvo
  3. Opel
  4. BMW
  5. Skoda

Example 8: The 2 questions below share an Answer Block from the first meta-data import. In an additional import the red answer alternatives are new. After the import the 2 questions will not share an Answer Block due to rule F. A new answer block will be created for Q2.

  3. Opel
  4. BMW
  5. Skoda

Q2

  1. Saab

Example 10: In an additional import with “overwrite meta data” the 2 questions below, which share an Answer Block from the first import, will not share an Answer Block when the meta-data has been updated after the import due to rule G. A new Answer Block will be created for Q2.
